The Betting Rounds:

After the first round of betting is complete, the players are each dealt another face-up card. This deal is followed by a second round of betting. The betting for this and all subsequent rounds is opened by the player holding the the highest poker hand visible. Play continues in this manner until every player has five cards (four up and one down) or until only one player remains in the poker game. In some 5 card stud poker games the fifth and final card is dealt face down so that the players' final hands consist of three up-cards and two down-cards.

The Showdown:

If more than one player remains there is a showdown in which players show all five of their cards. The player holding the highest ranking five card poker hand wins the pot.
